Social Media Outreach

As the social media coordinator for Special Collections, I write posts, create digital images, coordinate publishing, and develop and implement content marketing strategies. My innovations in this area include:

  • Initiated use of Tumblr for departmental blogging. Special Collections and Archives at Mizzou’s Tumblr was featured twice in its first six months and currently has over 16,000 followers.
  • Initiated departmental use of Twitter (@MUSpecColl). We currently have over 2,000 followers with an average monthly reach of around 100,000 accounts.
  • Initiated participatory campaigns and a posting schedule for the department’s existing Facebook page. Page likes grew from around 80 to over 950 to date, and content is frequently shared by other campus academic pages.
  • Devised and oversaw a Wikipedia editing project to add links to the digitized Sanborn Map Collection to all pages on Missouri towns and cities represented in the collection. Page views jumped more than 100% immediately; Sanborn Collection page views now account for over 20% of traffic on the Special Collections web site.
